How to Make Your Home Smell Like the Holidays
November 20, 2020Your home will forever smell like an idyllic winter wonderland with this holiday DIY project that is just as festive as it is fragrant.
The holidays are truly a wonderful time. We all love to bask in the glow of twinkly lights, cozy up around the fireplace, and sip that cup of hot cocoa. But nothing is quite as magical as the scents of the holidays. Let’s be honest, we could blissfully live in a home that smells like spices and freshly baked cookies all year round.
These all-natural DIY scents will keep your home smelling festive all season long. Plus, they’re particularly useful for covering up any dinner mishaps, like those eeeeeexxxtra crispy potatoes.
What You’ll Need:
First things first, glass jars. Then come the aromatics:
- Scent 1: Orange, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.
- Scent 2: Lemon, rosemary, and vanilla bean.s
- Scent 3: Orange, cranberries, and pine twigs.
How To:
Combine the ingredients in glass jars before filling them up to the brim with warm water, and voila! The fresh and slightly sweet scent will linger pleasantly in the room.
Looking to amp up the aroma even more? Combine the ingredients with water in a pan rather than a glass jar. Bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer. But be careful! Once the water evaporates, the citrus can easily burn. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Time-Saving Tip:
Prep, prep, prep. We can’t say that enough – especially around the holidays when free time is in short supply. Add the aromatics and water to your glass jars, screw on the lids, and pop them in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to use, simply reheat.
Cost-Saving Tip:
Citrus rinds work just as well. So next time you snack on an orange or jazz up your water with lemon juice, keep the rinds and store them in the refrigerator until ready to use.
If these holiday DIY scents don’t have you feelin’ merry, our Sugar and Spice Holiday Cookies definitely will.
Wonderful ideas. Will certainly use them. Don’t have to wait for next Christmas! Thank you.
