The holidays may look a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t decorate your dinner table. Here are 5 simple holiday table decorating ideas anyone can put together.

Whether you’re having a holiday dinner for two or six, setting a beautiful table is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. We’ve compiled our top six tips for putting together a holiday-worthy table.

    Double Up Plates

For a table to look really well set, having a starter plate and a main plate works well because it adds layers, different colours, or textures. Use a brightly coloured main plate and a white top plate, to add colour and elegance to your table.

    The Table Runner

If you’ve got a wooden table and want to spruce it up – get yourself a plain table runner to add warmth. If you’re on a budget, you can pop down to your local textile shop, choose your favourite colour, and buy enough for half the width of your table. It would be best if you had enough cloth on either side of the ends to get halfway down the height of the table.

    Festive Napkins

All you’ll need is some napkins, cinnamon sticks, and string for this simple napkin trick. Roll your napkin and place a cinnamon stick onto it. Use your string to attach them by wrapping it around them and tying it in a neat knot.

    Name Cards

If you want your holiday dinner to feel like a real occasion, you can’t go wrong with name cards. Place cards may feel odd for just a couple of people, but it’s sure to add to the ambiance. Just get an A4 sheet of white or cream card stock, measure it out into equal size cards, and cut using a craft knife or scissors. Use a hole punch to create a small hold on each card’s top left corner and pop a nice sprig of rosemary into it. Then secure it on the other side with some sellotape. Then write your family members’ names on them.

    Candle Light

Yes, it’s super simple, but getting the ambiance right can be a real game-changer and as simple as a candle. All you need is cute little white tea lights and put them in translucent tea light holders to add warmth and get into the holiday spirit.

    Don’t Forget the Greens

Flowers are lovely, but they can get expensive. If you’d like to add a bit of nature to your table, you can buy plain glass baubles and then fill them with different Christmas leaves like mistletoe, pine, or berries. Or better yet, try some fresh herbs – they’re beautiful and add a delicious aroma to the air.
