Meet the Artist: Rachel Joanis
Rachel is a Toronto-based graphic designer and illustrator with a commitment to diversity and inclusion in her work. We asked her a few questions about her festive inspirations.
What inspired your illustration for the card?
“I really wanted the artwork to be fun and colourful and evoke feelings of festive delight for everyone receiving it. I had a lot of fun experimenting with a Scandinavian inspired style that features clean, simple lines. I wanted to feature lots of natural elements including winter flowers and berries, trees, and song birds.”
What are some of your favourite festive moments?
“I celebrate Hannukah. I love the ritual of lighting the menorah every evening, it always brings me right back to my childhood, lighting the candles every night with my family when I was little. Another favourite of course are the holiday foods, namely my personal favourite, latkes!”
