Creating new traditions during the holiday season is actually just as much fun and enjoying old ones. So we’ve detailed for fun traditions that you can start celebrating year after year.

The holidays are a time filled with food, family, and a LOT of fun — stemming from holiday traditions that were passed down from generation to generation. Whether it’s having a particular dish for dinner or a holiday family get-together, traditions are a big part of the holiday season. But who’s to say there’s not room for some new holiday traditions?

    Cookie Swap

Who doesn’t love cookies? With only a limited amount of time in the holiday season to devote to baking, enjoying all the different holiday cookies can be a challenge. That’s what a cookie swap is for! Everyone bakes up enough of their favourite holiday treat to share and gets together to trade recipes! Don’t forget to bring a container so you can bring home a mixed bag of delicious holiday treats.

    Get Outside

The holiday season may be a colder time of year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a number of great winter activities you can enjoy. Make it a yearly tradition to try something new during winter. Whether it’s skating, sledding, snowshoeing, or enjoying a warm hot chocolate on a winter walk — finding new things to do each year ensures this tradition will never get old.

    Journal

With the new year approaching, it’s the perfect time of year to reflect on your goals and accomplishments! Start a tradition where every day you write down something you’re proud of, thankful for, or just want to remember about the year. After a few years, you can look back on all the amazing milestones in your life!

    Volunteer Your Time

The holiday season is all about spreading joy. So spread that festive cheer by volunteering at your local soup kitchen or food drive so everyone can enjoy a home-cooked, warm meal this holiday season. If time isn’t on your side, you can donate non-perishable food items to a food drive or look for a local giving tree to sponsor a family’s holiday.
