Grilling on the menu this summer? We’ve got 5 hot tips for a safe summer BBQ!

It’s getting warmer, which means Canadians are flocking outside to their BBQs for an outdoor dinner. Whether your making burgers, steaks, or kebabs, we’re sharing our top 5 hot tips for a safe summer BBQ.

    Keep It Clean

Tip #1 - Keep it clean!

Keeping your station, your hands, and your food clean is important – especially when dealing with raw meat. To avoid cross-contamination wash your hands, plates, or utensils immediately if they’ve come in contact with raw meat.

    Store It Cold

When storing your raw meat there are a few key things to remember. Firstly you’ll want to ensure you keep your raw meat stored separately from any other ingredients. You can do so by storing in a cooler bag with ice packs (a great way to reuse your HelloFresh ice packs) – make sure it’s under 4C!

    Grill It Hot

When prepping your grill, you want to ensure that it’s clean first! You’ll know your grill is preheated enough when the coals are hot and glowing red, with a powdery surface. If cooking one of the HelloFresh grill recipes, be sure to check the recipe card for safe cooking temperatures!

    Cook It Well

Cooked on the outside, doesn’t necessarily mean cooked on the inside. Cooking burgers, sausages, and kebabs well-done is a good way to ensure that your meat is properly cooked.

Fresh tip: When cooking your meat, don’t pour the marinade over the meat as is. Before marinating, set aside extra marinade to be used as a sauce to avoid any bacteria.

    Enjoy It Fresh

Now that you’ve cooked your food, it’s time to dig in! Grilled meat is best enjoyed fresh from the grill, but if you have to wait a little bit, be sure to keep your cooked meat in a shady spot and out of the sun.

Fresh Tip: If you have leftovers, it’s best to store them immediately in the fridge.
