The spotlight is on plant-based alternatives this year — with oat milk, in particular, popping up everywhere. The trendy (and DELICIOUS) drink has a more neutral flavour than other dairy alternatives, meaning it’s versatile enough for lattes, overnight oats, fruit bowls, and even your smoothies. It’s the perfect swap-in as a dairy-free alternative in any recipe. Oat milk is also a healthier option, rich in fibre and lower in fat than traditional milk. Packed with nutrients like vitamin A, iron and calcium, it’s good for both your body and taste buds.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own DIY oat milk at home:

    • 1 Cup Rolled Oats, Gluten-Free (if needed)
    • 2 Cups Filtered Water
    • Pinch of Salt, optional
    • Dash of Maple Syrup, optional
    • Dates, optional

    Here’s what you’ll do:

    1. Add oats, filtered water, and desired sweeteners to a blender. Maple syrup is an easy way to sweeten your milk with an ingredient you likely already have in your pantry. You can also blend in some dates for a nutritious and natural sweetener.

    2. Blend all the ingredients until smooth.

    3. In order to reserve the liquid, strain through a fine-mesh strainer, nut-milk bag, clean dish towel, or triple-layered cheesecloth.

You can also reduce waste by eating the already sweetened, already creamy blended oats left over either hot or cold! (:
